Print Literacy

  1. The explanations on pages 2, 3, 4 and 5 are all good. You have learned a lot about print literacy in a short time period.
You have done some good research and your use of various sources is very good. Your essay is essentially an A essay but it slightly falls short of a straight A grade. Here's why:
There are a few minor rhetorical and punctuation problems related to your use of quotes. For example at the top of page one, you don't tell us who you are quoting, and you don't frame that quote too well with comments of your own that introduce and then interpret the quote.
This quote is confusing for two reasons: (1) you don't state the author, only a page number; (2) it does not refer exclusively or directly to print literacy--it could also be referring to scribal literacy or digital literacy.
You repeatedly refer to Blake & Blake as Blake in the body of your essay.
When using MLA style, double space block quotes and also the entries in your works cited list.
I hate to penalize your essay for these relatively trivial matters when you so clearly understand and explain the fundamental points that need to be made about print literacy. A careful editing of your essay (by you and possibly by a second pair of eyes) would have quickly resolved what are basically editing problems. Come in and talk with me about possibly editing and resubmitting if you are interested in that.
    Grade: A-
